DIY Faded and Jaded Denim Shorts Youtube Tutorial

Hi, dollings 😘

I just wanna share quickly with you my latest tutorial on YouTube.

The DIY Faded and Jaded Denim Shorts

This step-by-step video series comprises four videos, and you will learn the following:

Part 1 - Preparing the sewing patterns, tracing the patterns, and preparing the fabric

I hope you enjoy the video series - it's quite nice to travel back in time while editing them. This pair of shorts was my favorite shorts back in college when thrifting was my hobby hahaha!

Thanks for dropping by, doll, and see you on my next post 😘

Hugs,

Shasha

  1. I just watched part 1 of this video series. I must say I haven't even tried yet to sew the doll pants from your pattern, but I've been practicing hand stitching by sewing a few doll-size pillows. I did use your glue mixture on those pillows so they wouldn't fray, so I guess I did learn something! I need to keep practicing, but there's always some other project to work on. I really need to take sewing a bit more seriously.

I've been considering doing a second version of some of my crafts and filming the whole process for Youtube, but I don't know if it will be worth the work. It would be crafts that I was planning to do a second version in another color anyway, but it's the editing bit and finding a proper filming set up what concerns me.

I hope you're having a great new week.

    1. Hey MC,
The week started great, thank you so so much! I hope yours is going well, as well!
Thank you so much for watching the first part - you're right, it might be good to look at some of my simpler shorts tutorials before getting into this more complicated one. Pillows are always perfect beginners' projects and hmmmm you are giving me an idea of making a new video based on that idea. But that pretty much is already overdone. I will check if there's something that needs to be covered for basic sewing.
To be honest, I didn't know I'd be enjoying sewing this much. My initial goal was to create scenes, but to be able to do that, I had to have props, right? I need to have characters and characters can't be just going around naked, so I did lots of research on sewing. Then I fell in love with the process. I couldn't afford as well to buy the best doll clothing I can find so I had to make them myself - the rest is history. If you think you can take really great pictures using doll clothings that you have around, by all means go for it, girl. Most toy photographers just buy what they need, and focus on the scenes or stories they make. I couldn't take that route because I feel like it's a more expensive hobby.
Yes, editing takes so much time, oh my gosh, I wish someone else will just do it for me but I believe for now, I just gotta do it too. Maybe that will come, but for now, I just want to learn the process as well. I enjoy it, even if it's taking so much time.
What kind of filming setup are you planning? Let me know, maybe I can help..
      hugs,

    2. I also can't afford to buy lots of fancy clothing, and even the Barbie ones are quite expensive over here. I've been unnemployed for a couple of years now, so I've had to cut lots of corners when it comes to collecting. Even when I was working I didn't spend much on doll stuff and all I wanted was to make my own props and scenes (even though I didn't have much time).

I don't know exactly how to make it, but I would want to place my phone in a way it points down (from a zenital angle or close). I just haven't figured out how to do it yet. It would also be helpful if I could see what I have in frame in that moment.

    3. So relatable - I've always just wanted to do DIY both for economical and learning reasons. Time is such a big factor though and it's so expensive. What I meant is I technically quit my job (which pays good) just to craft LOL!
In 2018 when I was just planning my video creation, I also had so much doubt about equipments to use. But I thought, as long as I have a good camera phone, the rest should be doable. I used my old dollroom box, some wooden sticks to hold my phone on top and there, I started recording. Before I thought of the box, I considered buying blue pvc pipes and fittings to kind of create a hollow box. I've seen this done in a youtube video (here's a similar one - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUIoXooG5SI). This is easy to dismantle when not in use. Let me know what you think though..
