New trousers/pants/jeans for Finnick Ken Doll

Yasss!

Finally, a decent bottom for Finnick, aside from that crisp white one I showed in the last post.

I know this one looks like a pair of jeans because of the fabric I used.

But the design really is intended to be that of the dress pants.

It's quite challenging to go out of your way, in the thick of the pandemic risk, and buy fabrics, so I am just using what I have in my stash.

Here are some photos of this guy I have not given his forever name yet.

Yes, I did make him a pullover, too.

And a loungewear ensemble, which I will take better pictures of once I make him his studio home diorama ;)

This pair of pants isn't really much of a difference to most of my trouser designs, as far as construction techniques are concerned.

Instructions on how to make these pants are almost identical to our girls' trousers, except that an additional step is added to sew the two vertical waist darts at the back panels.

Here's the link to my trousers pattern tutorial in blogpost form, and in video form.

Okay, so I also wanted to know if the pants looked okay on my BMR Made to Move Ken, but got too lazy to give him shirt. Sorry!

I'm super glad it fits him nicely, too!

Next up on my new pattern list is something for the girls, although this Ken wardrobe project will develop in parallel as I really wanted to give Finnick a character, a wardrobe, and a diorama.

I don't know when that will complete, but I am not stressing myself with any deadline.

Lately, I had been friendlier to myself, giving more realistic tasks and more lenient when I feel tired/lazy. During these challenging times, I realized I should focus more on keeping my body and mind healthy.

How about you, dollings?

Did the pandemic make you a better person than you were before? If yes, how so?

I could probably write another blog post about this, but I would love to hear from you guys, too.

Let's chat, okies?

Thanks so much for your time and support always!

xoxo,

shasha

P.S. This trouser pattern is now available at my Etsy shop. Thanks again!

  1. Look at Finnick! He looks fantastic! The actor who plays him is called Sam, in case that works as an inspiration for his name. I really like the fabric you've chosen for the pants, because it's not the classic jean fabric, but it's not too formal.

Like you, during this pandemic I've learned to be nicer to myself. Everyday I have a list of things that I want to do, so I can have some sense of routine, and I try to get done what I can, withouth beating myself down if I don't succeed. Of course, there's things that have to be done, like dinner and lunch, so those are priorities and the rest of activities are fitted around that. I try to have a routine, but at the same time go with the flow. If I'm not feeling inspired to do something I had planned, I will do something else that I feel like doing, instead of forcing me to do it.

I love how everytime I come here, it ends up being a conversation about mental health, or something like that. Plus, you always "sound" super nice and kind.

Wish you a lovely rest of the week.

    1. You are always such a darling, MC dear.. Hopefully someday I can visit you in your country and we can hang out and just talk about anything ❤️
Sam, indeed, sounds apt for him. I believe I should be grtting him a name soon but ugh, my perfectionist me wants first his job and daily life things - before the name 🤣😅🤣 It's hard to have too many egos telling you what to do 😁😁😁 As for mental health, yes, that seems to be my ultimate passion. For sure, my art and publishing passions are just the means to express and understand my own mental condition 😁 I love that through my art and crafts, I can express my thoughts, and through this blog, I feel like I have a shrink to listen and walk with me ❤️ You are a part of it and I thank you deeply for that, MC 💋 You too, enjoy the rest of the week, okies? Hugs from the Philippine islands...

  2. Nice pants! I was just thinking the other day how my boys' wardrobe is seriously lacking in bottoms, and the issue gets worse with the more male dolls I buy. It's always a challenge to find male doll clothing as it is, but I think it's more of a challenge because the boys have to wear separate pieces, whereas you can buy a few dresses for the girls and just throw those on them and be done with it.

I too find that I'm struggling with more laziness during the pandemic than before. You would think that since I'm spending more time at home, I would be working on more doll crafting projects, but I've actually done way less than before. Maybe the fact that many of us have more time has made us complacent, and we feel that we can put things off to the next day, and then the day after that, and then so on. Sometimes you have to take that time out for yourself and allow yourself to be lazy, but then I think there is a point where you have to also force yourself to do things so you don't end up in a mental/physical slump.

    1. I totally agree with everything you said, ChampS.. I takes a long time to hone the skill but we really need to learn to kind of get the two heads meet - the one wanting to just laze around (she has a reason for sure), and the one who wants to work like crazy. This pandemic has taught me a lot, to get to know myself better, and reveal those qualities that I have repressed since forever. I must say, I am a totally different person now.

Yes, you are so right about the challenges of dressing up a male doll. THose separates have got to be well coordinated such that mix and matching should be a breeze, right? I'm making sure I'm thinking of that as I work on developing wardrobes for the Kens! Thanks so much for your insight, my friend :) Take good care of you always!

  3. As usual your creations are polished and elegant. I like those pants. They can be made into something formal. I love classic patterns.

Dolling has been an amazing blessing to me and it started with the pandemic! Obsessing about 1/6 scale clothes, props, dioramas is just perfect because it is a small world I can control. My characters all have stories and now I am planning to make stop action movies and picture stories for my girls. Sewing their wardrobes is just part of the fun. I can relax and hand sew while listening to soothing music while the numbers and deaths in my country get higher. I just have to escape the horror of it all.

My art side is less productive. Fine art takes more guts to start. That’s okay. It’s hard and everyone is suffering to some degree.

I have loved your blog and learned so much from you. So much progress has been made in a year for me. I am sewing for the Phicen girls now and they are a challenge because they have big curves. My old school Fashion Royalty Vanessa is also a challenge but bit by bit I am learning how to adapt patterns.

    1. Yes, so true, my dear Simone! Just changing the pocket hem lines to a curvy, jeans-type, add topstitches, use denim/chambray fabric, and you get yourself a pair of casual jeans for your Ken!
During 2020 and til now, I saw a surge in dolly-related activities on the Internet and indeed it is one of the best ways to stay creative while staying home. Although I haven't been making more doll clothes, it was painting and pattern-making that kept me sane through these times 😉 As for my fine arts, instead of waiting for that ever fleeting, peaceful time to just observe my thoughts and process, I want to give it daily attention, even for just an hour. Most of my time is spent on developing new patterns and editing how-to videos but I am more than happy to be doing what I do everyday. Everyone must find their own way to get through this, right?
I am very happy to know that what I share to in my Internet homes are useful to you ❤️ I think in everything we do, the final part and most satisfying at that is the sharing part. It is so naturally fulfilling.
Hoping to get me a Phicen-sized gal soon to make patterns for. I know they are one of the wardrobe-starved members of the doll society 😁

  5. Great to see be here again. It is so good to see pants that actually fit and not too short. The makes me want to go into my clothing stash and throw all of my male pants away! The top is really nice also. A perfect fit!

    1. Hey hey, grandmommy! Yes, it has been a while, isn't it? I hope all is well with you there in your side of the globe. I agree our Kens need an upgrade and these pants surely surely deserves a spot in their new wardrobe. The pullover pattern should be available at the shop soon, too <3

  6. Hey hey, Linda! I hope all is well there in Belgium, my dear. I smile more lately hahaha and am able to laugh at my own issues and mishaps. I have become more honest, and for some reason, all the things I keep just to myself, I am slowly blurting them out, without any fear to be judged or hated. I love the new me and perhaps it's also just because I'm getting older, too hahahah
Yay, happy to know you love the boys' new clothing. The pullover is actually a size XXXL (biggest) 100% cotton long-sleeved tee I bought at the department store. I always buy real t-shirts to make doll tees hehe They are better options, than buying polyester/spandex stretchy fabrics. I also always love muted colors for basic items.
THanks so much for always dropping by, dear. You, too, take care of yourself always.

    Big hugs back!!!
